van Persie spends time off in Dubai – meeting Maradona!
|Arsenal striker Robin van Persie is clearly enjoying his deserved break in Dubai, but it hasn’t stopped him from forgetting about football after the Dutchman met his ‘hero’ Diego Maradona yesterday evening.
The 28-year-old was given permission to jet away for a sunshine break earlier this week, following the well awaited confirmation of Thierry Henry’s loan move just in time for Monday’s FA Cup clash against Leeds.
Former World Player of the Year (1986) Maradona, who was appointed Al Wasl manager last year, drew praise from van Persie before the 2010 World Cup final when he said the Argentine legend is ‘someone he has always wanted to emulate’.
“I have a really big picture in my games room back home of Maradona holding the World Cup. It is an unbelievable picture, he is on his teammates’ shoulders holding the trophy with this huge smile on his face. I would like to make a picture like that,” said van Persie.
van Persie scored an astonishing 35 goals in 2011 – one short of Alan Shearer’s Premier League tally, but one ahead of Henry’s best club haul.
Van Persie is working his way to becoming a football legend.

I hope teach him a trick or two, esp.how to con d ref.arsenal needs more decisions to go deir way!
Hopefully, Robin stays fit for the next few years and Wenger bring in some good players like Podolski. Once we win some trophies, I am 100% sure Robin can compete with Ronaldo and Messi for World Player of the Year award. He will have a decent chance of winning!
Why the fuck isnt he playing in the FA Cup,this protection of players is taken to a new level of stupidity,if we crash out tonight it will be on Wengers head and dont say it is only Leeds we have had more then reasonable problems with these lower league teams. If we get a draw i am gonna go ballistic, this club is overdue a trophy and Wenger teaches it like it is some sort of training exercise.
