Arshavin determined to prove himself once again
|Arsenal’s Andrey Arshavin is determined to prove himself at Arsenal, after rejecting the chance to return home and play for former club Zenit St Petersberg.
The Gunners had been willing to let Arshavin leave for a nominal fee but the Russian international who is now in the final year of his current contract worth around £80,000-a-week, has told Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger that he wants to stay put.
Both Zenit and Dynamo Moscow have been told by the player that he isn’t ready for a return to Russia following the recent birth of his wife’s child, while Arshavin himself remains adamant that he’ll be given a final chance to prove himself at Emirates Stadium.
Arshavin’s career under Wenger began on a high note but a dip of form coupled by loss of confidence saw him return to Zenit in February for a loan deal that ended on July 2012.
Marquee summer arrivals of Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski have pushed Arshavin down the pecking order and it was widely expected he will seek regular football elsewhere.
31-year-old Arshavin joined Arsenal in 2009, becoming the second most expensive player in the history of the club with a fee reported to be in the region of £15m.
Few players who I want to see succeed more than Arshavin. A huge fan of his, I know he’s not always the most committed to defend and has made a lot of errors on the pitch, but he has done plenty good for us too. I can’t help but feel that a big goal or two would see his confidence return and he could be a massive player for us and our pursuit of silverware this season. He is responsible for my favorite memory as a relatively new arsenal fan (his winner against barca at the emirates in early 2011, best game I’ve ever seen us play). I pray it’s not just wishful thinking but I’d love to see a memory or two along those lines still to come from his arsenal career. One can dream 🙂
great player , hope he can get back to his best and devastate defenses like we know he can ,under wenger he can ,he can get the very best out of players .
Arshaven will be an added bonus to the squad this season.
comon Shava get your mojo back!
oh yes Congratulations on the birth of your new baby boy Andrey!
He’s going to the best pay’d player in the Capital One Cup squad.
He is THE most frustrating player AW has ever invested in without exception, as for fighting for his place he’s not got the balls for a fight, so don’t even go there!!!
I agree. C’mon Shava show us some of your magic

i think his form has gone down but this is a great player that needs time on the pitch rather than off. when his form is back who do you pick.
