Coquelin set for Schalke switch
Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin will join German side Schalke this summer, according to reports in France.
The 22-year-old has told Gunners boss Arsene Wenger of his desire to leave the Emirates Stadium due to a lack of first team opportunities.
French U21 international Coquelin, who has previously been on loan at Lorient, was signed by Wenger in 2008 after impressing during a trial.
Wenger remains an admirer of Coquelin’s work-rate and technical ability and would prefer to loan him out for a second time instead of selling him on.
In total, the 08/09 FA Youth Cup winner has made ten appearances for Arsenal this season, most of which have been as a substitute.

That’s a real shame. I like his style of play and thought he’d of progressed better of our midfield wasn’t as strong as it is
It’s a shame that we haven’t been in a position where we can afford to give some younger players like Coquelin game time
He has exhibited sufficient skill and talent to deserve a first team shirt. Even better than the likes of Ram”shit”. A very strong physical player with excellent work rate. i think he is a good player and desrves better treatment from Wenger. I can bet he’ll flourish elsewhere and we’d end up biting our finger.
If Ramsey hadn’t starting playing so well I would be really angry because prior to Aaron’s revival, we were really lacking a player like Coquelin and he wasn’t given the chance to play.
It’s still sad because this guy will be a brilliant midfielder IMO. Another Vela.
We still have Yennaris, though, and he’s just as good imo.
easily our best DM. Yet he’s shunned game after game by Wenger.
Also better as a CM than Ramsey – much more technical and miles better defensively. Yet never given a chance while Ramsey was allowed to suck game after game for over a year.

Coquelin’s positioning play is remarkable for his age (as DM’s are usually good at it much later). He knows how to operate in the space between midfield and defense.
Yennaris is very raw and hardly every great even in the U21 games.
Coquelin is a very good player i dont know why Wenger is not giving him chance to play instead he sticks to Ramsey.If he has been given opportunities just like Ramsey we won’t be asking for another DM cus we already have one in Coquelin.That is typical Wenger behaviour,he keeps good players on the bench and play the “not good enough” ones as the case for Rosicky,Chamberlain and Podolki.
If he hadn’t been injured for a fair slug of this season he would have got more games. he is very good and we’d be better loaning him out for a year than selling him. Lets hope the reports are wrong.
Idk what your all going on about he’s to small to play holding midfield same with arteta. We need someone like Viera. Ex. yaya toure or Fellaini. I would like pogba maybe.
This is not great news at all!! Many people are saying how we need a proper DMF to complimemt Arteta yet Coquelin is that player. He has been with us for years, knows our style of play and did a very competant job in his role before Ramsey began getting the nod. Why he wasnt used more I have no idea. Arsenal are wary of spending money these days and we do need a DMF. So why over look Coquelin!?
