Arsenal expected to release Park Chu-Young

Park

Park Chu-Young will be released by Arsenal once he finishes his Army boot camp in South Korea, according to reports in his homeland.

The striker, who spent last year on loan at Spanish side Celta Vigo, made just six appearances during his two year stay at the club, scoring his only goal against Bolton in the League Cup.

Gunners executives went as far as writing off £5.5million in their accounts to cover the wages of the transfer flop.

Chu-Young, 27, is currently completing a month of combat training at a South Korean boot camp but has already been informed of Arsenal’s decision to release him.

Departures

Freiburg are expected to seal the season-long loan signing of Francis Coquelin after he was photographed training with them.

French U21 international Coquelin, previously linked with German giants Schalke, was signed by Wenger in 2008 after impressing during a trial.

Meanwhile, Nicklas Bendtner’s move to Frankfurt is in doubt after the Dane refused to budge on his high wage demands.

The ex-FC Copenhagen striker hasn’t played for Arsenal since August 2011, having scored 43 goals in 157 appearances since joining the club as a youth-team player.

Arsenal exits so far:

Andrey Arshavin (contract expired)
Sebastien Squillaci (contract expired)
Denilson (contract cancelled)
Vito Mannone (sold for £2m)
Park Chu-Young (set to be released)
