Marseille 1-2 Arsenal – British core give Gunners lift off in Champions League

Goals from Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey gave Arsenal a winning start in their tough Champions League group F against Marseille.

England forward Walcott opened the scoring with an excellent volley midway through the second half after several missed chances from Marseille.

Ramsey, who scored his sixth goal of the season, bagged the second goal six minutes from the end after Kieran Gibbs’ neat assist.

Jordan Ayew scored a last minute penalty after Ramsey’s challenge but it proved little too late for the French giants.
