Arsenal boosted by Marseille injury crisis ahead of Champions League game

Marseille will be without several first team players for next week’s Champions League clash with Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

The French side are currently bottom of Group F with zero points following a poor European campaign that has seen them concede 10 goals in four games.

26-year-old forward Dimitri Payet, Ghana international André Ayew and full-back Rod Fanni won’t travel to north London next Tuesday for the penultimate group stage match.

Arsenal came out top in the reverse fixture at Stade Vélodrome in September thanks to goals from Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey.

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could decide to hand Walcott a starting place against the French giants after he made his return from injury in the win against 2-0 Southampton on Saturday.

Wenger’s side can secure first place in Group F and a route into the Champions League last 16 if they manage to overcome Tuesday’s test against Marseille.
