The stats which prove Laurent Koscielny is better than Chelsea duo Terry & Cahill

Koscielny

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny is undoubtedly one of the best centre back’s in the Premier League – and these statistics explain why.

The Frenchman leads the way in blocks, interceptions, clearances, tackles won and has a better pass completion rate (92%) than Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany (88%) and Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel (90%).

He’s also above Chelsea’s centre back duo John Terry and Gary Cahill in terms of interceptions, blocks and clearances as the stats show below.

Interceptions: Koscielny 81, Cahill 27, Terry 33

Blocks: Koscielny 21, Cahill 20, Terry 19

Clearances: Koscielny 224, Cahill 210, Terry 220

Koscielny has topped most defensive statistics tables this season and continues to impress in the Gunners defence alongside Per Mertesacker. He’s fared superbly for a player who was bought for just £10.5million from Ligue 1 side Lorient in 2012.

28-year-old Koscielny, who is on the verge of signing a new contract with Arsenal, has also made more clearances this season compared to last (202 in 26 matches compared to 125 clearances in 25 games).

His development has been remarkable when you consider Arsenal’s previous centre back finds. Philippe Senderos, Sebastien Squillaci and Johan Djourou now remain ghosts of a calamitous defensive past for Arsene Wenger’s men.
