Aurier and Vela favourites to become Arsenal's first signings this summer
Arsenal’s preparations for next season are already underway with reports suggesting that the club will sign Serge Aurier and former striker Carlos Vela this summer.
Aurier, 21, is being lined-up as a replacement for Bacary Sagna whose contract expires next month, while ex-Arsenal man Vela has been targeted due to a £3.5m buy-back clause being available to activate in his contract.
Toulouse right-back Aurier, a self-confessed Arsenal fan, has been touted as a major target for several months but admits that he is only thinking about playing for the Ivory Coast at this summer’s World Cup.
The Ivorian has started 33 Ligue 1 games for Toulouse this season, scoring six goals and assisting six more.
“Arsenal? I do not know,” Aurier told Le10sport.
“It is an honor to have played this season. I will have time to think about all this but for now there is the World Cup.”
Meanwhile, Mexican forward Vela is being considered as a viable striking option after the Gunners inserted a buy-back clause in his contract when he was sold to Spanish side Real Sociedad for £2.5m two seasons ago.
Vela has enjoyed his most impressive season of his career in La Liga – netting 16 times in 37 appearances – giving Gunners boss Arsene Wenger all the more reason to activate the £3.5m buy-back clause for Arsenal.
Several players are expected to leave Arsenal next month with Lukasz Fabianski, Bacary Sagna and Nicklas Bendtner all out-of-contract, while loanee Kim Kallstrom will return to his parent club Spartak Moscow after his four-month spell in north London.
Arsenal dont need vela
SURELY we can do better than Vela!! If it is to get him at a bargain price and then later to sell him at a profit then it will make total sense, but certainly not as the only striker acquisition for Arsenal. We need a proper TOP DRAWER striker who can provide more in the region of 25 to 30 goals in 37 appearances and NOT only the 16 netted by Vela in the Spanish league, which in any case is not half as physical as the EPL.
DAHEERU: Carlos Vela would be a great addition to the team! Sure, he may not be the prolific and elite striker we are all hoping for (and lost in RVP), but he would be a great addition to the squad! For less than 5 million, it would be unwise to NOT bring him in. Especially after the year he had!
Indeed Matt. I think Vela can give us a lot of attacking options for 4 million.

Cavani would be great, but think 50-60 million is probably closer to the price tag.
I’d be very pleased with Aurier, a midfielder like Griezemann and maybe a Mandzukic or something.
Vela is a total steal for 4 mil though, no reason not to give it a shot.
As a youngster Vela wanted to play as the main front main and sulked when he was pushed out wide. However it seems that during his stint with Sociedad he has come to accept that maybe his game is more suited to being 1 of the 3 behind the striker. He has also developed a great work ethic at Sociedad and we all know what a wand of a left peg he has. This guy would be a steal at £3.5mil and would be a great asset to our squad.
Aurier is a no brainer for me. SIGN HIM NOW! Top level now, will be world class & is an Arsenal fan. What more do you need?
Then we need to replace Fabianski and TV5 if he leaves and add a defensive midfielder and a striker and we will mount a serious title challenge next year (would have done this year if Theo and Rambo had of avoided injuries!)

I rate Vela highly but could not understand why he was overlooked for the World Cup.

We need a striker but also wingers vela can play left forward and up top weve missed walcotts pace so vela and sanchez would give us maybe 20 or 30.goals between them i cant see wenger signing a 30 or 40 million pound striker as giroud scored 26 this season although i think we need a world class forward but if we had sanchez walcott vela and podolski rotating as right and left forwards i think they would achieve about 50 goals between them aswell as assisting many more
Arsenal should start looking at strengthening and building up a squad this summer
Aurier or callum chambers or Micah Richards (can play as CB if needed) for RB
Schneirderlin or bender (can play as RB if needed) or J Martinez (can play as CB if needed)
Mandukic or Benzema or any striker who can complement or will give competetion to giroud up front.
Also we need a keeper – may be valdes not sure if he will be ok with No.2 though

Vela is a steal at 4 million. Doesn’t just score goals but assists a lot too (was involved in 27 goals this season 16 goals 11 assists). In my opinion gnabry and sanogo should go out on loan, they need to play 30 matches a season at top level to develop properly.

– a DM preferably schneiderlin,
– no need for a winger as we have Joel Campbell,
– A fast, skillful & mobile striker remy or bony or lukaku, (Mandzukic too similar to Giroud, and gutted that we didn’t buy Drmic)
-Rb aurier,
-Gk Marshall ( dreaming of Casillas experienced and can tutor scsezny but probably wouldn’t happen ),
– If TV5 leaves then I want a young and upcoming (19-23) cb maybe laporte or umtiti.
– P.S if Podolski leaves then we can buy greizmann and
– if Giroud leaves then Mandzukic can be purchased and
-if Arteta or Flamini (or both) leave then Fabregas can be purchased back
– and an upgrade on Monreal ( ricardo rodriguez)

To arsenal fans dreaming of 35 goal strikers wake up, those striker aren’t easy to find. Benzema, Mandzukic, bony, Remy aren’t 30 goal strikers but are good. It isn’t easy (probably impossible) to find a Suarez or cavani that wouldn’t cost 60 million upwards (except Costa who is Chelsea bound).
