"We wanted to win more than Arsenal", says Monaco striker Dimitar Berbatov
|Dimitar Berbatov insists that his Monaco team ‘wanted to win more than’ Arsenal after the French side recorded a 3-1 victory in the Champions League last-16 clash.
Emirates Stadium bear witness to one of the shock’s of the season so far as Arsene Wenger’s team succumbed to an embarrassing first leg capitulation.
Former Manchester United, Tottenham and Fulham striker Berbatov knows all about Arsenal from his days in the Premier League and he admitted afterwards that his team were more hungry for the win.
When asked how Monaco made Arsenal look average, Berbatov said: “Because we are good.”
“Nobody expected that probably but we are confident in our ability and honestly we deserved to win”, he told Sky Sports.
“We scored our chances and in the end it was a great win for us. But it is not over.
“We have another game in Monaco and Arsenal are a dangerous team. Today, we probably wanted to win more than them. We were fighting all over the pitch and winning our challenges.”
Gutted, we were so crap, I hate when we do this.. Managers time is up…We are a waste of time.
I think we could have had different headline had giroud convert atleast 2 of his glorious chances.
Fourth place and last sixteen is seen as success for the unambitious Arsenal board.
One trophy in ten years.
Spending a lot of money on new players has solved nothing.
The issue is the manager and our need for a new direction.
The sooner Wenger goes the better.
Arsenal are going nowhere under his management.
Players like Sanchez, Koscelny and Ozil and we are fighting for fourth place.
Wenger has got to go…
Wenger is no longer a competitive coach
