Arsene Wenger admits Arsenal were ‘second best’ against Southampton
|Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hailed the performance of Southampton after they comprehensively beat the Gunners 4-0 at St Mary’s.
The Boxing Day clash was a chance for Wenger’s men to go top of the league following Leicester’s defeat to Liverpool earlier in the day.
However, a disappointing defensive display coupled with a magnificent strike from Cuco Martina means Monday’s home match against Bournemouth takes on even more significance.
Wenger himself was aggrieved about some of Southampton’s goals, specifically their second, after Shane Long fouled Laurent Koscielny during the build-up to his strike.
