Arsenal set to sign Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny

Arsenal are expected to seal the signing of Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny in the coming days.

The 23-year-old revealed that he had undergone the first part of his medical with Arsenal on Saturday, and will sign a five-year contract with the club later in the week.

Swiss giants Basel reluctantly agreed to part with their talented midfielder for a fee in the region of £6.5million after several weeks of negotiations.

Elneny has helped Basel win three league titles since arriving from Arab Contractors in January 2013, and has scored six goals in all competitions this season.

A deep-lying central midfielder who is renowned for his accurate long-range shooting abilities, Elneny is also able to take pin-point set pieces and has a high pass completion rate.

It’s not the first time Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has given an opportunity to an Egyptian player, after former Hull City midfielder Ahmed Fathi was taken on trial last season.

His arrival is expected to ease the midfield injury crisis at Emirates Stadium, with Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Mikel Arteta all ruled out for the coming weeks.
