Barcelona midfielder mocks Arsenal: ‘I could have signed for them…’
|Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan has mocked Arsenal, after revealing that he could have signed for the north London side.
The La Liga giants signed Turan last July for a reported £27m, although he could not appear for the club until January of the following year due to the club’s transfer embargo.
Since then, Turan has found consistent game time hard to come by, often finding himself filling the squad with a bench role or subject to rotation with the likes of Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta.
Speaking to Diara Aria, as reported by the Independent, Turan claimed that he would not have had to play so well for Atletico Madrid if he wanted to join Arsenal.
“I felt that I would sign for Barca. Honestly, I thought: ‘If I play very well I’ll end up signing for Barca, because my style fits this team. If I play well, finish at Arsenal.’
“For my style, with ball, playing easy, short, aggressive when needed, but especially good, I knew I could get here in Barcelona.”
Last season’s UEFA Champions League winners knocked Arsenal out in the round of 16 earlier this month, triumphing a whopping 5-1 over two legs. The north London side will look to overturn their fortunes in the Premier League in the coming weeks, facing Watford on Saturday afternoon at the Emirates Stadium.
