Coquelin – These two youth players will follow Iwobi into the first team

Arsenal defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin has revealed that there’s plenty more academy prospects who could follow in the footsteps of Alex Iwobi.

The Nigerian attacking midfielder has been hugely impressive since coming into the first-team picture, solidifying his place in the side and scoring twice in as many starts against both Everton at Goodison Park and Watford at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Having made the move to north London at the tender age of nine, Arsenal have been praised for bringing the young star through the academy system and into the first-team. Coquelin, however, believes that the likes of Chris Willock and Jeff Reine-Adelaide are more than capable of breaking into the first-team.

“It’s good to see young players coming through. We’ve got a few who have joined in with training, such as Jeff Reine-Adelaide – he’s a big talent – and Chris Willock as well.

“There’s a lot of talent there and for them to see Alex breaking into the first team will give them a sign that there’s a chance for young players to come through.

“What Alex has done is unbelievable. He played really well against Everton and he can help us a lot in the final push.”

Arsenal under-18’s face Manchester City at the Emirates on Monday evening in the FA Youth Cup semi-final second leg, having lost the first by two goals to one – a fixture that Reine-Adelaide bagged an impressive strike in.
