Five centre forwards Arsenal MUST consider buying this summer
|Arsenal have been heavily linked with plenty of big names since the turn of 2016.
From the likes of Granit Xhaka, Ben Chilwell and Kostas Manolas to the obvious links of Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema.
With Arsenal not having a player score over 20 goals in the Premier League since Robin van Persie notoriously did in 2011/12 – the season prior to him joining Manchester United, it’s clear that they need goals.
Olivier Giroud is capable of hitting 20+ goals a campaign but only in all competitions and for a team that wants to aspire to become champions of arguably England’s toughest division, it’s just not good enough.
Buying a central defender is good in keeping goals out, a tough midfielder can shore things up but goalscorers win games.
Check out these five strikers who Arsenal should consider signing this summer.
Alvaro Morata
Not currently the most prolific of goalscorers in world football, the Spaniard has bags and bags of potential. His ability to hold and run with the ball is amongst the best in the world and the fact that he is not a guaranteed starter at Juventus means that there is clearly more in him than we’re currently seeing.
Morata has a buy back clause to Real Madrid for just £25m which means that he could be bought by Arsene Wenger for little more than that and with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey supplying him in behind, the 23-year-old centre forward would thrive in front of goal.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Arsenal could sign Zlatan on a free. A free contract. His deal with PSG is over at the end of the current season and clubs are lining up for him.
So they should be.
Even at 34-years-old, the Swedish international has scored 42 goals and bagged 16 assists in 43 games, leading his club to glory in Ligue One.
He’ll cost a hefty amount in terms of wages but he’s worth it. Zlatan is consistent, strong and frightens defender. Arsene Wenger simply has to go all out to acquire his services.
Antoine Griezmann
Since joining Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad, Griezmann has lit up La Liga. He was originally a left winger but showed his clinical ability and has been transformed into a centre forward by Diego Simeone.
Since becoming one, the Frenchman has not looked back. It’d take a lot to persuade him to join Arsenal but having done so with the likes of Alexis and Ozil, Wenger could surely do the same with Griezmann.
The 25-year-old has scored a stunning 29 goals in 46 games this season and is capable of doing more than just goal scoring, he can hold and run with the ball, scare defenders and make Arsenal formidable once again.
Alexandre Lacazette
Another Frenchman, Lacazette was heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal last summer.
It didn’t quite come off but the 24-year-old is having another impressive campaign in Ligue One. He’s bagged himself 19 goals this season which is second only to Ibrahimovic’s tally and he fits the mould of an Arsenal striker. With Lacazette previously confirming that he would like to ply his trade in the Premier League one day, he may just be an investment worth making this summer.
Romelu Lukaku
A proven Premier League goal scorer. That’s what Arsenal need, right?
Up step Lukaku.
The Belgian is just 22-years-old and is arguably the best and most unstoppable Premier League striker. He’s scored 18 goals in 25 league appearances and with Everton doing so poorly, he, understandably, has grown frustrated.
Lukaku is tied down to a rather long-term contract at the Merseyside team, putting them in a pretty good position but if Wenger bids aggressively, he could just land one of the best strikers around.
