Arsenal centre forward Eddie Nketiah has not been named in head coach Steve Cooper’s 18-man England squad for the under-17s European Championship, the English FA has confirmed.

The teenager, who is a regular for the under-18s and earned a call up to the under-21s earlier this week, scored 24 goals in 28 games for the youth side this season, including a hat-trick on the final day of the season against Tottenham in a 3-3 draw.

Despite being just 16-years-old, Nketiah was released by Chelsea and joined the north London side, impressing ever since he made the move.

The under-18s star, however, was not called up to the squad for this summer’s tournament in Azerbaijan, while Ben Morris (Ipswich Town), Joshua Bohui (Brentford) and George Hirst (Sheffield Wednesday) all made the strikeforce, despite scoring fewer goals than Nketiah this season.

The lack of a call-up will come as an obvious disappointment to Nketiah, who is likely to stay with the under-18s next season and have be involved on a sporadic basis for the under-21s.

Arsenal teammates Marc Bola, Marcus McGuane and Reiss Nelson were all called-up.
