Brand new Arsenal signing Granit Xhaka has revealed the reason behind him joining the club from Borussia Monchengladbach last month.
The Swiss midfielder signed for the Gunners in May from the Bundesliga side for a fee believed to be in the region of £30m and while a number of other teams were interested in him, admitted to Bild (as reported by the London Evening Standard) that once he received the call from the ‘legend’ Arsene Wenger, was somewhat lovestruck.
“It was madness, he’s a legend to me.
“Suddenly he is on the mobile and wants me. I will never forget his first sentence.
“He said: ‘If you want to enjoy football, you have to join us. Here is the paradise.’ He has an incredibly calm but convincing manner. It makes me proud to work under such a coach.”
Supporters have an opportunity to watch Xhaka perform during June as he bids to help Switzerland to success at Euro 2016, alongside the much Arsenal-linked Ricardo Rodriguez.
Meanwhile, the north London side are still waiting on Jamie Vardy to make a decision on his future, with a bid from the north London side awaiting his response – although no decision is expected to be made before the end of Euro 2016, with the player focusing all of his efforts on helping England to glory.
