Diamond Football Academy president Martin Apugo has confirmed that 18-year-old Kelechi Nwakali has officially joined Arsenal, as reported by allnigeriasoccer.com.

The attacking midfielder has long been linked with a move to the north London side but for one reason or another, the signing has taken its time and reports even broke out that Arsene Wenger could miss out on signing the talented teenager.

Nwakali impressed the Gunners with his performances at the under-17 World Cup – which Nwakali helped Nigeria to win and was named as the Player of the Tournament along the way.

Speaking on Nwakali’s future, Apugo – the president of the Diamond Football Academy, confirmed that he is now an Arsenal player, having signed a contract which will last for at least five years.

“Kelechi Nwakali was with Arsenal but came back from London to join the national team. He will travel this month to Arsenal, he is still in the Flying Eagles camp.

“He has agreed a five – year contract, he is a player of Arsenal.”

The talented Nigerian is likely to go straight into the reserves and play with the under-21s and may be the only youth signing of the summer after the potential signing of Samuel Chukwueze broke down, with the player likely to join Porto instead.
