Ramsey makes worrying fitness admission ahead of new season
|Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has revealed that he will not be ready for the start of the Premier League season, as per the Guardian.
The Welshman has been on international duty with Wales at the 2016 European Championship but that journey came to an end on Wednesday 6th July after a 2-0 loss to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in the semi-final – a fixture in which Ramsey was unable to feature due to suspension.
After out-performing all expectations, both Ramsey and his teammates have had to delay a number of organised events such as weddings and holidays and speaking to the media after the game, the 25-year-old admitted that he’ll be requiring an extended break after an exhausting campaign.
“I am back on 1 August, so I have a few weeks off but, obviously, it kicks off a couple of weeks afterwards.
“A few years ago, Germany won the World Cup and the German players came in just a few days before the first game of the season, but they missed that. He [Wenger] does like to give players a little break and I’ll be getting the same treatment. I feel I need a few weeks off now.”
The Gunners’ Premier League campaign starts on Sunday August 14th against Liverpool, where supporters will have the opportunity to watch new-signing Granit Xhaka as well as a number of other potential new signings.
However, Takuma Asano, signed last week, will not feature after being selected for Japan’s Rio 2016 Olympic squad.
