Arsene Wenger discusses Arsenal future amid England interest

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out the potential of becoming England manager one day.

The Frenchman’s contract with the north London side runs out next summer and there is no word as to whether he will extend it, despite reports over the last year that he has a three-year contract on the table and awaiting his signature.

However, after England’s failure at the 2016 European Championships, Roy Hodgson resigned and Wenger has become amongst the ideal candidates to take over in the role, alongside Jurgen Klinsmann, Sam Allardyce and Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe.

Speaking to beIN Sports, as reported by the Independent, Wenger has refused to rule out the possibility of managing England one day and admitted that he doesn’t know what the future holds with regards to his role as Arsenal boss beyond the end of next season.

“Could I manage England, why not?

“I would never rule that out, but I am happy and focused in club football.

“England is my second country. I was absolutely on my knees when England went out against Iceland. I couldn’t believe it.

“But when you watched the game you could sense, after 60 minutes, that the worst could happen. Did they panic or were they tired? I don’t know, but England couldn’t find an answer to what Iceland posed

“I have one more year to go with Arsenal and I have been with them for a long time. I have always respected all my contacts [throughout my career] and will continue to do that.

“What will I do after that? Honestly, I don’t know.”

Many have called for the Frenchman to either be sacked or resign as boss of the Gunners, while others would like the club to stick by his philosophies.
