Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has formally invited Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis to England ahead of talks regarding a transfer for centre forward Gonzalo Higuain.

News broke in recent hours regarding the north London side’s offer for the Argentine international – which is believed to be at least €60m, although no bid has yet to be formally submitted.

Italian football pundit Ciro Venerato, speaking to Radio CRC as reported by Football Italia, claims that Wenger has invited the Napoli president along with sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli to London where they will discuss a deal that sees Higuain join the English side.

It’s believed that the 28-year-old would favour a move to north London despite interest from another of other sides, giving the Gunners a slight edge in the transfer battle.

West Ham United are also interested in Higuain and are willing to pay a similar figure, meaning the Gunners will face stiff competition in trying to complete what would be a club and Premier League record fee.
