Latest Roma signing Alisson all but confirms Arsenal star will join him this summer
|Roma’s latest recruit Alisson has claimed that he and Wojciech Szczesny will share a ‘fair rivalry’ next season.
The Poland international spent the previous campaign on loan at Roma and impressed, fuelling talks this summer that he could join the Italian side on a permanent deal for around £15m.
With both Petr Cech and David Ospina to compete with for a spot in the first-team, as well as on and off field antics seeing the 26-year-old lose his place in the side, Szczesny may have to look elsewhere for a regular starting spot and speaking at his Roma unveiling (as quoted by the Metro), Alisson hinted that he looks forward to the rivalry that the pair will share.
“As for Szczesny, I’ll say again that it’s not an important matter.
“He’s strong and he did well. There’s going to be a fair rivalry with him.
“I chose Roma for a simple reason, for the faith that they had in me from the beginning. They offered an excellent working project and this is the right choice for me. My family and I will be very happy in Rome.”
As it stands, it’s unknown whether a deal will officially take place, with both sides yet to agree a deal, although it’s likely that Szczesny will not remain at the club beyond the summer, with Cech the Gunners’ undisupted no.1.
