Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral has confirmed why he decided to leave the club and join Granada on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old spent the previous campaign on loan at Championship side Birmingham City and had an impressive spell but found himself unable to convince Arsene Wenger of his worth at this stage in his career and as opposed to settling for odd first-team minutes and regular under-21s football, agreed a deal to join La Liga side Granada.

It’s expected that the Spaniard will feature heavily in their plans this season and speaking at his unveiling for the club, Toral admitted that he joined the club to improve as a player.

“I’ve come here to learn from my teammates & coaching staff, to improve myself as a player & help the team any way I can.

“I’ve played as an inside forward, attacking midfielder, even as a winger. I’ll adapt to whatever the manager wants from me.”

Whether or not the winger has a future at the Gunners is yet to be seen, while rated highly, the position he plays most effectively in – behind the striker, is taken up by arguably the world’s best player in the position in Mesut Ozil, while he can also play from the right side of a front three.
