Higuain & Mahrez to Arsenal? Arsene Wenger’s dream starting XI

Arsenal have been heavily linked with an array of players over the summer, though not all as heavily as others.

Granit Xhaka and Takuma Asano are the only two names to have actually signed for the Gunners this summer but the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Nevan Subotic, Dan Holding, Riyad Mahrez, Alexandre Lacazette and Mauro Icardi have all been linked in recent weeks.

With the Premier League season less than a month away, what would Arsene Wenger’s dream starting XI be going into the new campaign?

Goalkeeper: Petr Cech

The big shot-stopper is the undisputed no.1 between the sticks for Arsenal and despite the fact that Wojciech Szczesny is back in north London, Cech will continue in goal.

Right back: Hector Bellerin

Bellerin is a very, very talented right back and should he work on the necessary areas of his game, could become amongst the best in the world.

He’ll be at Arsenal for years and years to come.

Centre backs: Per Mertesacker & Laurent Koscielny

The pair at the heart of the defence are Wenger’s most trusted and despite Gabriel being the supposed player to take over from Mertesacker, the German’s experience will prevail for the season to come.

Left back: Nacho Monreal

Monreal has had a summer of rest and rehabilitation, he is a fantastic full back and will be amongst the most dependable in the side once again.

Central midfielders: Santi Cazorla & Granit Xhaka

The duo will provide a contrasting but robust midfield partnership, Xhaka can distribute the ball just as well as Cazorla but has the capabilities of being the tough tackling midfielder that Arsenal have missed for so long.

How good will it be to see Santi back in an Arsenal shirt. Think about it for a moment.

Right wing: Riyad Mahrez

N’Golo Kante joined Chelsea and Mahrez could be the next to follow him through the door, with Arsenal the most interested of all clubs across Europe.

The Algerian international doesn’t need much of an explanation, he’s a stunningly talented footballer and would provide Arsenal with goals, pace and creativity.

Attacking midfield: Mesut Ozil

The 27-year-old is a world-class creator and will be the man Arsenal rely on once again next season.

Left wing: Alexis Sanchez

Alexis had a ridiculously good first season at Arsenal and a decent one in the second campaign but still proved himself to be amongst the most energetic, direct and driven players in the world.

If he brings his Copa America form to the Premier League, the Gunners could go very, very far.

Centre forward: Gonzalo Higuain

The Argentine international would be the final piece of the jigsaw for Arsenal.

He is one of the best strikers in the world and although Olivier Giroud is very good at football, the Gunners need someone who will put the ball into the back of the net at every given opportunity.

With an XI like that, Arsenal could finally put in a genuine challenge to win the Premier League.

These sites never learn do they? A history of transfer inactivity in the summer transfer windows of years past and they keep writing these stories. I can only imagine it is to get hits on their website. I can guarantee you nothing will happen. Arsenal will start the season in just under four weeks with no recognised striker and Wenger will talk the team up spouting rubbish about mental strength and it will be another season of finishing nowhere. Wenger will be offered a bumper new three year deal and the last ten seasons performance will be repeated for the… Read more »
