AS Roma are set to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on a season-long loan in the next 24 hours, according to Football Italia.

It’s reported that the 26-year-old’s agent has been in discussions with the Italian side all summer and while he is happy to return to Rome for yet another season, is unwilling to close the book on a potential long-term future in north London.

Szczesny spent the previous season on loan at Roma and flourished after a difficult spell with Arsenal saw him dropped for David Ospina, before Arsene Wenger paid £10m to bring Chelsea’s Petr Cech to the club in what has proven a shrewd transfer move.

The Poland international is to have a battle with summer signing Alisson and will join for just a season, although they will have to pay Arsenal a fee if they want to complete the deal.

It’s believed that the fee is close to being agreed, with all talks set to be a formality and the move to be finalised within the next 24 hours.
