Lyon president speaks out on Lacazette’s future amid £40m Arsenal move speculation

Lyon president Bruno Genesio has claimed that Alexandre Lacazette will remain at the club despite rumours linking him with a move to both Arsenal and Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old centre forward is believed to be interested in leaving the French side but is settled and a leading star, so is in no rush to make the move away anytime soon.

Arsenal are in need of some more summer signings, with the Gunners having confirmed moves for just Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano and Rob Holding so far. With the likes of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck set to be unavailable for the start of the season, the north London side have just Chuba Akpom as a senior striker and he could start against Liverpool on August 14th.

However, it doesn’t look as though Lacazette will be the man to solve that problem, with the Ligue 1 side’s president confirming that in ‘any case’, he will not be leaving this summer, as reported by GFFN.

“Last week, I gave Alex a little heat because he did two or three strange things in training. He responded to me in the best way (by scoring) even if he could have scored twice, because in the first half he also had a chance with his head. It is good for his confidence. He was also impressive in build up. Whether that was going forward or during his hard work when the team did not have the ball. It is important for him and for the group. I do not think he is at all affected by this period and the noises around him. In any case, he will stay at Lyon.”

With Lyon also back in the UEFA Champions League next season, Lacazette has even more reason to want to stay in France.
