Decision made on Chuba Akpom’s future
|Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told Chuba Akpom that he will not be leaving the club this summer, according to Jeremy Wilson of The Telegraph.
The 20-year-old centre forward has been in impressive form during the Gunners’ pre-season fixtures, scoring twice in three games.
His first came against Major League Soccer’s All-Stars, scoring the winner late on before bagging against Chivas De Guadalajara just days later.
Despite having competition from the likes of Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud for a place up top, Wenger believes that Akpom is good enough to fight for his place in the first-team and after the successes of Hector Bellerin, Francis Coquelin and most recently Alex Iwobi – all of whom came through the academy, the striker could be next in line.
Akpom spent last year on loan in south Yorkshire with Hull City and impressed but failed to nail down a place in the first-team due to the fine form of Abel Hernandez.
The youngster could find himself starting against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on the first day of the Premier League season, with Giroud still yet to come back from his holidays and Danny Welbeck away with injury.
A player who struggled to get into Hull’s Championship side is good enough to play for Arsenal a couple of months later!!!A couple of “tap-ins” during pre-season doesn’t turn him into a first team player simply because the Manager doesn’t have the bottle to pay the going rate for someone who is capable of making a difference. There might not be many 20 goal a Season forwards out there and available but there certainly are plenty of players with greater ability and a better work ethic than Akpom.Another one in the mould of Bentner who doesn’t take advice on board when it’s given and thinks he’s far better than his performances would indicate.A complete contrast to Iwobi…
Wenger and arsenal are wasting ppl time and when this club finish 7 or 8 places and be disgrace
Did Bellerin tear up any trees at Watford?
Look Mahrez come from French second div to EPL of the year.six month is quiet enough for young player to show changes. Let speak honest akpom b4 left to hull city he was ahead of iwob.and remember championship is difficult league than premier cause no ozil ,corzolar.
I wish him all the best to put is mark.
I saw him in last to match he is not bad.
