Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told Chuba Akpom that he will not be leaving the club this summer, according to Jeremy Wilson of The Telegraph.

The 20-year-old centre forward has been in impressive form during the Gunners’ pre-season fixtures, scoring twice in three games.

His first came against Major League Soccer’s All-Stars, scoring the winner late on before bagging against Chivas De Guadalajara just days later.

Despite having competition from the likes of Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud for a place up top, Wenger believes that Akpom is good enough to fight for his place in the first-team and after the successes of Hector Bellerin, Francis Coquelin and most recently Alex Iwobi – all of whom came through the academy, the striker could be next in line.

Akpom spent last year on loan in south Yorkshire with Hull City and impressed but failed to nail down a place in the first-team due to the fine form of Abel Hernandez.

The youngster could find himself starting against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on the first day of the Premier League season, with Giroud still yet to come back from his holidays and Danny Welbeck away with injury.
