Arsenal Player Review: Hull 1-4 Arsenal

process

After unconvincing displays against Southampton and PSG, Arsenal turned in a convincing victory against Hull at the KCOM Stadium. This is how each player performed.

GK – Cech
A quiet display from the keeper in a match Arsenal dominated. Would be disappointed to have conceded a penalty in the fashion he did.

RB – Bellerin
No tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 key pass and 1 accurate cross in what was a bit of a mixed bag for Bellerin. An improvement on his recent performances versus Southampton and PSG but he still need to improve his tackling output as well as key passes and accurate crosses.

CB – Mustafi
An excellent performance from Arsenal’s new recruit with 4 tackles and 3 interceptions. Could be a little more no nonsense in his defensive approach though with Mustafi only averaging 4 clearances per game thus far. Also recorded only 1 successful aerial duel.

CB – Koscielny
A mixed performance for Koscienly. An outstanding 5 interceptions but no tackles, clearances or successful aerial duels.

LB – Monreal
Another excellent defensive performance from the Spainard with 3 tackles and 2 interceptions. He continues to struggle in attack though with no key passes and no accurate crosses.

CDM – Coquelin
A commanding defensive midfield performance by Coquelin with 4 tackles and 4 interceptions. Offensively he also recorded a key pass.

CDM – Cazorla
A subdued performance by Cazorla with no tackles, only 1 interception and 1 key pass. Can’t help but think that fatigue due to his age and being required to play 3 games in 8 days played its part in his quiet performance.

RW – Walcott
Another highly productive attacking display by Walcott who scored a well taken goal, had 3 of his 5 goal attempts on target and recorded 2 key passes.

CAM – Ozil
Another slightly underwhelming performance from the German with no assists. That said he is still managed to record 2 key passes which, whilst down on his average of 4 per game last season, is still a good effort.

LW – Iwobi
A highly energetic performance by Iwobi who provided an inventive assist, had a total of 6 attempts on goal, albeit only 1 on target, and recorded an impressive 3 key passes.

CF – Sanchez
An all action display from Arsenal’s Chilean striker who scored 2 goals, had a penalty saved, had 4 out of his 5 goal attempts on target and recorded 2 key passes.

Of the substitutes Xhaka stood out with a thunderbolt of a strike for his goal and 2 key passes. Elneny and Perez’s impact was minimal granted the latter was only on the pitch for a grand total of 6 minutes.

Overall a convincing performance from Arsenal particularly in an attacking sense. Much improved on their recent efforts versus Southampton and PSG.
