Ian Wright: Arsenal star brings everything together

Alex Iwobi broke into Arsenal’s first-team last year and has since been a revelation for Arsenal.

The Nigerian international – he did also play for England at youth level – is the most recent product of Arsenal’s youth academy, the last being Hector Bellerin, although Iwobi has been at Arsenal since the age of eight.

Iwobi’s performances have been somewhat staggering. In the space of just under a year, Iwobi has gone from making his debut to now being a starter in the first XI. Moreover, his performance against Chelsea this weekend typified Iwobi’s progression and his status within the squad. Such was his impressive performance, that Arsenal legend, Ian Wright, claimed Iwobi was ‘the glue’ in the Arsenal team, as per The Sun, (h/t Squawka).

I have to say Iwobi [was the best], for me, is the glue. He’s the one who gets in those little holes. I was saying that we need something different. He was something different to a Chelsea team that, let’s face it, weren’t at the races.

If and when Wenger decides to shift Sanchez back into the wing position, Arsenal will have a host of options. With Iwobi’s current form, he could well likely keep his position in the team.
