Who are the candidates for Arsenal’s September Player of the Month?
|September has been a great month for Arsenal with five wins and a draw.
After a poor start to the season, the north London side have recovered from what looked to be another terrible start to the season.
At the forefront of their bright month has been three outstanding players in Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and newly signed German centre-back Skhodran Mustafi.
The three have provided outstanding performances in a winning run that has stretched eight games through August, September and the beginning of October.
I will now provide an outlook as to why all three players could individually state a claim for the ‘Player of the Month’ award.
3rd- Skhodran Mustafi
The German centre-back has been a revelation for the club, solidifying their defence and bringing in some much-needed steel and pace to the already pacey backline with Hector Bellerin, Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal.
The £35 million man together with Laurent Koscielny has only conceded a single goal from open play since joining the club from Spanish club Valencia, he’s looking like a bargain so far.
2nd- Alexis Sanchez
The winger has picked up where he left off for Chile in their second Copa America victory in successive years.
With four goals and two assists in six games for the club, the number seven has grown into the striker role, which many pundits and experts alike believed he wouldn’t be able to play after Arsenal’s poor August but Wenger persisted and it seems to be paying dividends.
At the top of his performances was the game against Chelsea, where the South American gave Antonio Conte’s defence a torrid time in a 3-0 drubbing. Arsenal might have finally solved their striker problem.
1st- Theo Walcott
The England international has experienced what can only be called as a rebirth, in a season where he has contributed seven goals – five goals and two assists.
The player has put in superb performances against the likes of Hull City, Chelsea and Basel in a month where he has bagged himself four of his seven goals and one of his assists.
Walcott has mixed lethal attacking play with strong defending to win back the fans and seen him top the September ‘Player of the Month’. If he can continue his current form, he may even find himself as Arsenal’s ‘Player of the Season’, that’s a big if though.
