Much has been said about the contract situations of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Alex Iwobi and Hector Bellerin of late. Santi Cazorla’s contract, however, has not received much attention even though the mercurial Spaniard’s contract is set to expire next summer.
Santi Cazorla has arguably been one of Arsene Wenger’s best signings at his 20 years at the club and even though he is 31-years-old, it is somewhat surprising that his contract situation has not been sorted. Cazorla recently spoke Spanish radio station Cadena Ser (h/t ESPN), to confirm his desirte to stay at the club.
‘I am happy here. I am trusted by the manager and my team-mates. I am feeling important here, and if they’ll offer me a new contract, I’ll sign it because I am very happy with this great club.’
In the past Cazorla has had offers from Atletico Madrid and is open to returning to Spain in the future but with Arsenal seemingly becoming more ambitious, it would be a waste to move away from the club. Arsenal, however, are never keen on offering contract to players over 30 but in this case, Cazorla’s quality may be too much to let him leaver on a free.
