After a somewhat shaky start to his Arsenal career, Nacho Monreal has become one of the most consistent and reliable players at the club.
The left-back has not played an international since November 2013 but as reported by the Mirror, due to an injury to Jordi Alba, Monreal has been called up to new boss, Julen Lopetegui’s squad for Spain’s upcoming game against Albania. It shows how well Monreal has played as of late as he has beaten out Cesar Azpilicueta and Bayern Munich’s Juan Bernat. Monreal fell out of favour with then boss, Vincente Del Bosque following his move to Arsenal but the new Spain boss has said that all players will be given a clean slate, as he looks to return Spain back to the top of international football.
While many Arsenal fans will rejoice at the fact that Monreal has finally been recognized for his high level of play, it also means one more player at risk of injury and fatigue. Given Arsenal’s terrible injury record over the last few years, this might be a poisoned challis.
