Arsenal confident of signing Ozil but doubt Sanchez
Arsenal have long been in talks to sign both their star players to new deals. Ozil and Sanchez were both offered new contracts last season but as of yet have not signed. Reports this week emerged that both players wanted to earn as much a £250,000-a-week which make them both two of the highest earners in the League.
Today Squawka, now reports that Arsenal are confident of signing Ozil to a new £200,000-a-week deal but remain fearful that Sanchez could leave the club. Ozil and Sanchez’s contracts both run out in 2018 which adds, even more pressure on the club to sign both players before they enter the last year of the deals.
Both players are the marquee signings since Arsenal moved stadia and emerged from austerity. Ozil is currently Arsenal’s top earner with £140,000-a-week and seems settled at the club following his best season for Arsenal last year. Sanchez, on the other hand, seems a restless figure who has had a few run-ins with Wenger and is unsure of the progression of the club.
The Chilean has been in resurgent form this year whilst playing as the leading striker but has attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Juventus. Arsenal need to sign both of them down to new deals quickly or will be forced to entertain offers for their star players as they head into the final year of their respective deals.
