According to Portuguese newspaper, A Bola (h/t the Independent), Manchester united will face competition from Arsenal for Portuguese sensation, Goncalo Guedes.
The Benfica winger is the latest talent to emerge from Portugal of late and at only 19-years-old is attracting some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including the two English giants. Guedes is currently contracted to Benfica until 2012, thus Benfica are looking for a substantial fee, which is understood to be in the region of £50 million.
Arsenal had been interested in a move for the Benfica winger last January but were put off by the large fee, due to his performances since then, however, the fee is more than likely to rise. On the international level, Guedes has represented Portugal from under-15 to under-23 before making his debut for the senior squad in a 1-0 defeat to Russia. Although he is primarily a winger, he can play anywhere across the front – something that many clubs love.
If he can have a good season for Benfica, that a move away next summer is more than likely.
