Amid contract speculation, Hector Bellerin has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona or Manchester City next summer.
The 21-year-old has become one of the best fullbacks in Europe since he broke into the first-team two years ago. In that time he has also become a full Spanish international in a very competitive Spanish squad.
In today’s press conference, Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger has reiterated his desire to offer Bellerin a new deal, as he sees Bellerin’s long-term future at the club.
‘His progress has been absolutely spectacular because he has top mental strength. I think he loves as well to be here and he has responsibilities already in the dressing room for such a young age. It’s something remarkable.’
It is no doubt that Bellerin is essential to the team and at such a young age, he still has much more potential to fulfill. He joined Arsenal at 16 from Barcelona and has progressed very well, indeed he will surely be one of the players that Arsenal will build their squad around, as Wenger stated.
‘So we try to extend, certainly, his contract. For me, his long-term future is here. What is important is that a player meets his needs where he is and his values, and I think he integrated very well with the values of our club. He came at a very, very young age of 16. I think he is a real Arsenal player’
