Mesut Ozil’s has long been in contract talks with Arsenal over a new deal. The German international’s current deal is due to expire in 2018 and Arsenal are desperate to tie him down to a new deal, a deal which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the League.

In a recent exclusive, however, Goal.com’s Chris Wheatley, Mesut Ozil is delaying signing the new deal until he is assured of Arsene Wenger’s future at the club.

The german playmaker has been one of the leading assist makers since he joined the club in 2013, cementing himself as one of the best number 10s in the world. Indeed, Ozil has often quoted Arsene Wenger as a huge factor in him leaving Real Madrid for Arsenal.

While Ozil still has just under two years until his current deal runs out, Wenger’s contract expires next summer and although he has been offered a new deal, it remains to be seen if he will extend his stay with the club.
