Hector Bellerin: I want to be at Arsenal for a long time
|Hector Bellerin’s rise from youth team player to first-team regular, to arguably the best right back in the League, and has consequently attracted interest from the biggest clubs in Europe, namely his boyhood club, Barcelona.
The young right back, however, has recently spoken about his desire to stay at Arsenal for the foreseeable future, as reported by the Evening Standard.
‘If I wanted to play there [at Barcelona] I would have stayed there, I was very happy when Arsenal showed interest in me and I decided to come here. I’m not looking back, I’m just looking to help Arsenal.’
‘It’s nice for a player to know that big teams want you but I’m very happy here. I’ve still got three years left on my contract so I’m just focused on playing every single week, improving and hopefully making things happen here at Arsenal. I’m not in a rush to extend the contract. I’m happy. I’m comfortable. I want to be here a long time.’
Bellerin is one of the best attacking full-backs in the League and has become essential in Arsenal’s play. His blistering pace allows Arsenal to start the counter attack at the back, while in the final third, the wingers can drift inside, thus giving Bellerin room in behind. At the back, he is constantly improving and has recently been hailed as the best full-back in the country by Rio Ferdinand.
‘It’s very nice when those things come from another player, especially a person who knows the game and knows how the position works.’
