Ozil close to signing new deal

Arsenal have long been in talks with Mesut Ozil over a new long-term deal with the club. The German international goes into the final year of his contract next season and Arsenal are desperate to tie him down. 

Reports earlier this season had suggested that Ozil was demanding upwards of £200,000-a-week, making him one of the highest-paid players in the League. The Mirror, however, is reporting that Ozil is close to signing a new £160,000-a-week deal with Arsenal. The Arsenal hierarchy remain confident that Ozil will sign a new deal with the club, with one club representative saying ‘we are confident’ he will sing, according to the Mirror. 

This news comes after Arsene Wenger was quoted as saying that there are similarities between Ozil and Bergkamp. 

‘There are similarities with Bergkamp. I think he can become a legend – if he commits. Dennis Bergkamp committed for a long period, played until he was 38.’

Regardless of whether is Ozil is similar to Bergkamp or not, Arsenal need their top man to sign with the club. He is in great form and remains one of the best players at the club.
