Arsenal’s ‘Goal of the Month’ for October

Sunderland v Arsenal - Premier League

Asenal had a superb October. The north London club put together a run of form that saw them not only go unbeaten but climbed up to the top of the league to contend with Manchester City.

Within October they had some superb wins, notably a 6-0 hammering of Ludogorets in the champions League and a 4-1 win over Sunderland to finish off the month. Arsenal scored 16 goals overall through, so let’s have a look at some of the bets. Here’s our list of the four contenders for Arsenal’s ‘Goal of the Month’…

Olivier Giroud vs Sunderland (29/10)

Arsenal outclassed Sunderland for much of the game but as usually happens when a team dominates but can’t finish the game off, Sunderland gained a penalty to which Defoe put away. It seemed like it was going to be a frustrating draw for the Gunners until Olivier Giroud came on. With his first touch, the Frenchman finished superbly from a Kieran Gibbs cross. A great finish, from an awkward angle and off balance, brilliant from Giroud.

Mesut Ozil vs Swansea (15/10)

Another frustrating game for the Gunners. Swansea looked threatening down the right flank and had real joy attack Monreal.

Mesut Ozil has often been criticised for not scoring enough goals but the German seems to have remedied that and this was one of his better ones. Alexis Sanchez floated a brilliant ball to the back post for Ozil who volleyed home Arsenal’s second – a difficult chance made to look easy.

Theo Walcott vs Ludogorets (19/10)

Probably Arsenal’s best performance of the month, Wenger’s men completely annihilated Ludogorets. The Gunners looked sharp and threatening from the start and were just too much for the Bulgarian champions.

Theo Walcott is going through a career renaissance this season and he continued his form in this game. Mesut Ozil cut the ball back from the left-hand side, Walcott controlled the ball – albeit not as well as he would’ve hoped – and slammed it past the goalkeeper.

Alexis Sanchez vs Ludogorets (19/10)

Another goal from Arsenal’s 6-0 thrashing of Ludogorets. Arsenal were all over Ludogorets in the first-half and the pressure resulted with a sumptuous Sanchez chip. In typical Sanchez fashion, the Chilean sprinted down the left side, to then cut back onto his right foot and lob the the helpless Ludogorets keeper to make it 1-0.
