Arsene Wenger gives update on Welbeck injury
|After a serious injury layoff, Danny Welbeck returned to the Arsenal team in January and was an immediate breath of fresh air. The England international scored the game-winning goal against Leicester City in his return from injury, in what many thought would be the result that would see Arsenal push for the title. Welbeck continued to play well for the remainder of the season, and looked set to be included in England’s Euro campaign until he suffered a serious knee injury in Arsenal’s penultimate game of the season against Manchester City.
He underwent surgery at the end of the season and was consequently scheduled to return in 2017. Today, Arsene Wenger gave an update on Welbeck’s recovery, as reported by the Mirror.
‘He’s ahead of schedule and he’ll be back in January. It will take two months competition for him to get back to his best.’
Wenger also commented on how the club has improved on muscular injuries over the last few years.
‘We’ve improved on muscular injuries tremendously over the last two or three years and hopefully we can continue that.’
