Even though his former deal was due to expire in 2019, Manchester City and Barcelona’s reported interest pushed Arsène Wenger into extending the Spanish international’s contract, in a deal said to be worth £100,000-a-week and running until 2023.
The Spanish right-back, who has already 87 appearances to his name with Arsenal’s first team, has been an ever-present figure in Arsène Wenger’s team, starting and playing 90 minutes in every Premier League game before his injury. Currently sidelined for three to four weeks with an ankle injury, Arsenal will hope he makes a speedy recovery.
