Emiliano Martinez signs contract extension

Arsenal v Reading - EFL Cup Fourth Round

Arsenal have officially announced that highly-rated goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has signed a new long-term contract extension with Arsenal as reported by Arsenal.com

The Argentinian has often been Arsenal’s League Cup goalkeeper this season, keeping clean sheets in both games against Nottingham Forest and Reading respectively and will likely start again in Arsenal’s quarter-final showdown with Southampton.

The 24-year-old first joined Arsenal’s academy in 2010 and has gone on to play a peripheral role for the first-team, albeit he has been included in Arsenal’s pre-season tours in the past. He has made 10 senior appearances for Arsenal, as well as loan spells at Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and most recently Wolves. With Cech and Ospina the first and second choice ‘keepers respectively, Martinez is regarded as Arsenal’s future number one.

‘If you look at him, I personally see all the top qualities that a goalkeeper needs. I am very happy that he committed, because I think he is the future goalkeeper at this club.’
