Feature: Four Players Arsenal should sign in January
|It’s near that time of year again! Half-way through the season, every fan up and down the country dreams of that new fox in the box striker to supplement the forward line, a new bruising defender to shore up the back line, or even someone just to bolster the numbers in an injury-ravaged squad. Over the years, Arsenal have at times picked up a bargain player during the Winter transfer window and this year, it might just be time for Wenger to dip into his pocket.
With that in mind, let’s have a look at the four potential signings that Arsene Wenger could add to the team during the transfer market to maintain a title charge this season.
1. Kylian Mbappé (AS Monaco)
At only 17-years-old, young forward has been likened to Manchester United’s, Anthony Martial due to his pace and eye for goal. Amongst a very youthful Monaco squad, Mbappé is one of the brightest talents and is highly coveted by the South of France club and due to his, Mbappé will not come cheap. The young French winger would certainly add some depth to Arsenal on the flanks, especially as Sanchez now seems to be the starting striker. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s form has been inconsistent over the season, while Walcott is approaching the dreaded 30 – Mbappé would be one for the future.
2. Riechedly Bazoer (Ajax)
In addition to Mbappé, another precocious talent that is rumoured to be available in the transfer window is Riechedly Bazoer of Ajax. When Bazoer broke into the first-team a few seasons ago, he was heralded as one of the best talents to come out of Jong Ajax in years. This year, however, Bazoer has been relegated to the bench by new boss, Peter Bosz, in favour of Klassen. and subsequently, Ajax have now confirmed that Bazoer will leave next month, with a move to Serie A looking like the possible destination.
Bazoer has been likened to Patrick Vieira due to his physicality and technical ability while also being able to get from box-to-box. Bazoer does a bit of everything; he could add steel to Arsenal’s midfield while also being able to contribute going forward, a cut-price deal could prove very fruitful for Arsenal.
3. Carlos Bacca (AC Milan)
Arsenal had been linked with the ex-Sevilla man back in the summer and could once again try to pry him away from Milan. There have been reports that AC Milan are willing to move the Colombian on and could well accept a bid of £21 million for his services.
Bacca had a solid first season with Milan last year, scoring 18 goals in Seria A and has scored six so far this season, albeit he has missed the last two games with an injury. It may be difficult to sign AC Milan’s main striker halfway through a season where they are very much challengers for the title, but with Gianluca Lapadula showing some form over the last few games, Milan might be tempted to cash in on Bacca sooner, rather than later.
4. Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)
Reus has been linked with Arsenal for quite some time now. The German international apparently was close to joining the club two years ago, until he picked up a serious injury which effectively cancelled the deal. When fit and firing, Reus is one of the best in the world. The German international is capable of playing through the middle or out wide and it is the latter position where he could really benefit Arsenal. In combination with Sanchez and Ozil, Reus could form a world class triumvirate and give Arsenal another goalscorer going forward.
