“My future at Arsenal depends on Wenger” – Arsenal star opens up about contract talks

In what is becoming a weekly saga,  the contract situations of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez become an increasingly difficult scenario for the club to deal with. Mesut Ozil, however, has once again reaffirmed that his future runs hand in hand with Wenger’s, as reported by Kicker (h/t the Guardian).

The German international has 18 months left on his current deal and has made it clear that he would be willing to sign a new deal if he knows that Wenger will be staying at the club – Arsene Wenger’s contract runs out this summer and there has yet to be any confirmation that the club will offer him an extension to stay at the club.

“The club knows that I am here most of all because of Arsène Wenger. He is the one who signed me and he is the one whose trust I have. The club also knows that I want to be clear what the manager is going to [in the future].”

The German has been accused of exploiting the club in order to get a vast pay rise by many, including Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry. Ozil, however, has insisted that he is happy at the club and it is down to Arsenal now, rather than him.

“I am very, very happy at Arsenal and have let the club know that I would be ready to sign a new contract. The fans want that I stay and now it is just down to the club.”

“Everyone has a right to say what they want but what they have to say doesn’t interest me. Ex-players or other people who have a view don’t know what is actually being said between me and the club.”
