Transfer Close: Wenger confirms deal for defender

In his pre-match press conference, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Carl Jenkinson will leave the club on loan this month. 

Jenkinson picked up an injury while on loan with West Ham last season, in what was his second loan stint with the East London club. Since returning to the club, however, Jenkinson has found it hard to gain much game time and after a couple of below-par performances, he is set to be reunited with Sam Allardyce. 

The right-back is due to join Crystal Palace in the next few days, a move Arsene Wenger confirmed today. 

“With Carl, yes, there is a possibility that he will move, in the next two or three days.”

When prompted on whether that move would be to Crystal Palace, Wenger replied with a reasonably conclusive answer. 

“You look well informed…I cannot tell you much more because we have not come to any conclusion yet.”
