Arsenal to donate £50,000 to Sutton United
|Sutton United have confirmed that Arsenal will donate £50,000 to the club following their FA Cup tie, as reported by Goal.
Thanks to goals from Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott – his 100th goal for the club – sent Arsenal into a quarter-final draw with Lincoln City. Although Sutton United’s boss, Paul Doswell was disappointed to see their cup run come to an end, he confirmed that Arsenal’s donation will really help the club.
“Arsenal have been superb and we think they will help us with a classroom,” Doswell told reporters. They promised us £50,000 and that will buy us two classrooms, an amazing gesture and we are very thankful.”
In a somewhat sour note, Doswell also commented on the pitch invasion and an apparent incident where a fan had attempted to throw a bottle at the Arsenal manager.
“It was a shame they couldn’t get the round of applause they deserved. It was a real shame people came on the pitch and took that away from them. I saw a few idiots shouting and screaming at Wenger and Arsenal players.”
“You saw an idiot run on the pitch, that was the big moment of his life.”
