Michael Owen takes dig over Arsenal’s lack of success
|Michael Owen has hailed Arsenal as “the most consistent team in the world” as the London look set to have another disappointing season.
Arsenal are practically out of the Champions League following their 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first-leg, which would make it seven consecutive season where they have failed to surpass the round of 16. Moreover, the Gunners are seemingly out of the Premier League title race as they currently sit 13 points behind Chelsea.
This habitual capitulation, however, has not surprised BT Sports pundit, Michael Owen, who claimed that the Gunners are just not at the level required to win major titles, he concluded on Premier League Tonight.
“Arsenal are the most consistent team in the world. Everyone says they get to a stage and then underperform… [but] they are so consistent: they come third or fourth in the league every year, they get knocked out at the last 16 stage of the Champions League every year.”
“They’re the same every year – and they have been for the last 10 or 12 years. Exactly the same. They beat all the rubbish teams in the Premier League then as soon as they go to Bayern, Manchester United or Chelsea, they get beaten. They’re a level below.”
