The fans need to have more respect – Alex Iwobi jumps to Wenger’s defence

Whilst away on international duty with Nigeria, Alex Iwobi has defender Arsene Wenger and claimed that the fans need to show more respect to the manager who’s spent more than 20 years at the club.

Following a run of nine games in where the Gunners only won three – while also losing 10-2 to Bayern Munich over two legs – Wenger has come under unprecedented pressure from the fans.

With his contract due to run out in the summer, it now seems that the majority of the Arsenal faithful would rather that the Frenchman left the club. Alex Iwobi, however, feels that the fans need to respect Wenger for what he’s done at the club and would be happy for him to continue on as Arsenal manager – as reported by the Daily Mail

“They [the fans] need to have a bit more respect in my opinion. I mean, he’s been at the club for 20 years, he’s achieved a lot, obviously they’re a bit impatient with the results and where they want to finish. We also want to finish there, we want to win the league like anyone else, I can guarantee we are trying our hardest.”

“No matter who is in the job, or who gets the role, we’re always going to fight for the manager, every player always gives 100 per cent, no matter what, we’ll just play.”

“He always backs our players and he is a great man. He’s been great to me as well, I’ll always back him, no matter what. For what he’s done for me, I’d like to say thank you, for bringing me in to such a world class team, and I’m playing almost regularly.”
