Wenger insists Arsenal will not sell star man to City

In his first press conference since landing in Australia, Arsene Wenger told the press that the club will not sell Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal.

The 28-year-old striker has yet to commit to a new deal to stay the club, despite being offered a deal worth £275,000-a-week. Both parties have been locked in negotiations for over a year but are no closer to an agreement, leading to reports linking Sanchez with a move to Manchester City.

Speaking recently, Wenger concluded that he would not be prepared to sell to a rival, regardless of the price.

“That’s in the continuity of what I said at the end of the season; that’s what we will do. The players come back and we expect them to respect their contracts.”

Pushed on whether Sanchez had asked to leave, Wenger denied the story.

“No. Nobody knows today if Sanchez will be in the final year of his contract next season, because he can as well extend his contract with us at the start of the season or during the season, so it’s not necessarily the last year of his contract with Arsenal.”
