Wenger reacts as Arsenal make first signing of January transfer window

Signed yesterday for a reported fee of around £1.8m (€2m), 20-year-old centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos has shown great promise during 16 first team appearances in the Greek Superleague for PAS Giannina, and is expected to continue his development with Arsenal, having taken part in his first training session at London Colney on Friday morning.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup match against Nottingham Forest, manager Arsene Wenger stated that “the plan is that he goes out on loan to play somewhere. It can be a German club – I’d prefer him to play at the top level and gain experience.”

Having established a strong reputation for himself in the Greek top flight, scoring three goals and playing twice for the Greek under-21s national team, the future looks bright for the young signing.
