Arsene Wenger issues update on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is adamant that the Gunners are not hot on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s heels, despite differing reports which suggest that the Borussia Dortmund hit-man is on the cusp of a mid-season switch to the Emirates which could be worth £53m.

In the past 15 months, Aubameyang has been hit with 3 internal disciplinary punishments by Dortmund, and it’s believed that the rebellious Gabon international is keen on a move to the Gunners in the Premier League to escape the difficulties he’s currently toiling through.

According to Sky Sports, BVB chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke claims that the north-Londoners have made contact with the Bundesliga outfit over the availability of the blistering attacker, however Wenger, speaking to the BBC after his squad’s scintillating 4-1 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace at home on Saturday, said:

“Aubameyang no, nothing is happening. He can be left out of the Dortmund team for different reasons, certainly not for transfer reasons at the moment.”

Whether the French tactician is merely playing down the link to the media or not is unclear, although if anything’s transparent it’s that the 28-year-old is one of the continent’s most venomous goal scoring machines.

Though he’s served self-inflicted spells on the sideline, ‘Auba’ has smashed 21 goals into the back of the net in 23 appearances for his current employers, a record which certainly holds his name aloft as one of the modern game’s most potent attacking threats.

Aubameyang joined Dortmund in 2013 from Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne, and in just 212 games he’s resoundingly managed to accumulate 141 goals for his pernicious efforts in-front of the target, along with 36 assists, proof that he’s an accomplished provider as well as dispatcher of opportunities.

There’s no doubt that the ardent striker will reinforce Arsenal’s armoury in the final third, but with ‘Le Prof’ seemingly poised to keep his cards close to his chest, the outcome of Aubameyang’s future is still very much veiled in riddle and mystery.
